What is a Cube in Magic: The Gathering?
A Cube is a custom, curated collection of Magic: The Gathering cards designed specifically for drafting. Unlike traditional booster draft formats where you open random packs from a set, a cube is a hand-selected pool of cards that cube creators choose to create the best possible draft experience.
How Cube Drafting Works
- Curated Card Pool: A cube typically contains 360-720 cards (or more) that have been carefully selected by the cube creator. These cards are chosen for their power level, synergy, and ability to create interesting draft decisions.
- The Draft Process: Players sit in a circle and draft cards from "packs" made from the cube. Each pack is created by randomly selecting 15 cards from the cube, ensuring variety while maintaining balance.
- Build Your Deck: After drafting, players build 40-card decks (plus basic lands) from the cards they selected, then play matches against other drafters.
- Reusable Format: After the draft, all cards are returned to the cube, making it a sustainable and cost-effective way to experience high-powered limited Magic repeatedly.
- Infinite Variety: Because packs are randomly assembled from the cube each time, every draft feels fresh and different, even with the same cube.

Types of Cubes
There are many different types of cubes, each offering a unique experience:
Common Cube Variants
- Powered Cube: Includes the most powerful cards in Magic's history, including the Power Nine and other iconic cards. Extremely high power level.
- Unpowered Cube: Powerful cards but excludes the Power Nine and other format-warping cards. More balanced while still being high-powered.
- Themed Cube: Built around a specific theme, mechanic, or set of cards. Examples include tribal cubes, artifact cubes, or cubes based on specific sets.
- Peasant Cube: Only includes commons and uncommons, creating a lower power level but still interesting draft environment.
- Set Cube: Recreates the experience of drafting a specific set, but with multiple copies of cards to allow repeated drafting.

We typically run drafts with 6-8 players, ensuring everyone gets a great experience. Spots are limited, so we recommend arriving early or checking with us about availability.
Whether you're a cube veteran or new to the format, our Cube Draft Night welcomes all players. Our community members are happy to explain the format, help with deck building, and ensure everyone has a great time.
